“I understood why they keep it private.”

I understood why they keep it private. Privacy was not a rule hanging over the evening; it was the thing that allowed the evening to breathe. Nobody here seem to be stranger for too long. Everyone knew how to move and carry themselves so well that makes every corner breathable.

That dictated the way people moved through the rooms. There was an ease I had not seen at any o**y, a sense that attention could remain exactly where it was placed. Every gesture felt more deliberate because it belonged only to the people who witnessed it.

A few friends have asked me what happened. I tell them it was beautiful, which is true, and that they would have to see it for themselves, which is also true. The rest is not secrecy for its own sake. It is respect for a night that trusted us.
